SaltWorks QA Manager Now IFT Certified Food Scientist®

The SaltWorks, Inc. quality assurance manager recently achieved the globally recognized Certified Food Scientist credential from the Institute of Food Technologists.

WOODINVILLE, Wash., July 12, 2016 — Laurie Scott, Quality Assurance (QA) Manager for SaltWorks, the industry leading all-natural Gourmet Salt Wholesale Supplier, has achieved the distinguished Certified Food Scientist® (CFS) designation. A formal globally-recognized certification for food science professionals, CFS is administered by the Institute of Food Technologies (IFT) and the International Food Science Certification Commission.

Laurie Scott joined SaltWorks in July 2015 to spearhead the company's NSF® International third-party audit and SQF Level 2 Certification. Scott has a background in microbiology and holds a Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Technology from Colorado State University. Before joining SaltWorks, she was a QA Technician at NorthWest Naturals, the Food Quality and Regulatory Specialist at Theo Chocolate, and SQF Practitioner and QC Supervisor at DS Services.

As a Certified Food Scientist and QA Manager, Scott will train employees on SaltWorks' food safety programs including GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) procedures. She verifies facility and personnel SQF, GMP and HACCP compliance through daily and monthly interval audits. Additionally, she ensures SaltWorks is in compliance with updates to SQF, new federal regulations, including implementing and adhering to the requirements of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), which includes verifying foreign suppliers meet similar quality and safety standards.

In addition to completing ongoing training to ensure compliance with SQF and other federal regulations, Scott will also complete 75 hours of education contact hours and professional development to maintain her CFS status, and will be recertified in five years.
